Freeview launches new connected TV service and fresh rebrand

Freeview has announced plans for a new connected television service which will launch later this year.

It has also undergone its biggest rebrand since launching in 2002, while the logo has been given a fresh and updated look to reflect the platform's evolving service.

Freeview Play will launch later this year and will provide viewers with the option to watch live, catch-up and on-demand television.

At launch, Freeview Play will offer BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and 4oD, giving viewers the option to scroll back through the EPG to search for programmes - much like YouView's television guide.

The service will remain true to its core values, offering free-from-subscription, open television, with any manufacturer able to implement this new service.

Guy North, Freeview Managing Director, said: "Our new brand identity is bold and contemporary and will stand out in what is a very crowded TV market.

"Today marks the start of an exciting future for the Freeview brand."
